Meet Tom!

Today, we would like to introduce you to Tomek, whom you surely remember from our last publication!

Tomek has been working at Rex-Bud Construction for 23 years! This means that he has been building with us almost since the company was founded! What sets him apart is, above all, his passion. A passion for action and helping others! 🚒 Get to know him better 👇

ℹ️What inspired you to join the Volunteer Fire Brigade?
From an early age, I was fascinated by the fire service and helping people in need. I remember watching firefighters during rescue operations as a child and admiring their courage and dedication. I wanted to be part of that community. What's more, since childhood I have taken part in firefighting competitions, which require considerable skill. Among other things, they ’drew’ me into this world.

ℹ️How long have you been with the fire brigade?
I have been a member of the Volunteer Fire Brigade since 2003, which means I have over 20 years of service!

ℹ️What is your work as Fire Chief like?
As Head Sobowice Volunteer Fire Brigade I am one of the members of the Management Board and also the CEO's right-hand man. My tasks are very diverse and include both organisational and operational issues. I will soon complete specialist training, which will give me greater opportunities. Then I will be able to go on various types of missions.

ℹ️As part of the company's ’Write a letter to Santa Claus’ campaign, you and your colleagues wrote a request for support for the activities of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Sobowice. It worked. What did you spend the money on?
– A firefighter's basic equipment primarily includes appropriate clothing and footwear. Unfortunately, the cost of a full set of firefighting gear is quite high, which is why we decided to ask for help. New clothing is not only a matter of comfort, but above all a guarantee of safety. That is what we decided to spend this amount on.

ℹ️What would you say to people who are considering joining the OSP?
Is it worth joining the Volunteer Fire Brigade? Definitely yes! I know that many people ask themselves this question. You often hear different opinions – positive and negative. Let me tell you about it from my own experience. Being a volunteer firefighter gives you a great sense of community. In our Volunteer Fire Department, we work as a team and support each other. I often hear the question: „Why have a volunteer fire brigade when there is a State Fire Service?” The State Fire Service is extremely important, but volunteers are an essential complement to it. Often, we are the first to arrive at the scene, provide first aid and secure the area. Thanks to our presence, losses can be reduced and assistance can be provided more quickly.

ℹ️What do you do on a daily basis at Rex-Bud Construction and how long have you been working here?
During my 23 years of work, I have had the opportunity to participate in many different construction projects, from huge industrial halls to smaller investments. Currently, I specialise in the assembly of steel structures, which means that I often find myself at height, so it is certainly not a job for everyone!
Back to the beginning. The first project I worked on was an investment for Lafarge. I remember it being a very demanding project, but at the same time it gave me a solid foundation for further development. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work on many other interesting investments, both in Poland and abroad.

ℹ️Are you able to combine your work at Rex-Bud Construction with your activities at the Volunteer Fire Brigade?
Yes, I try to skilfully combine both roles. Working in the Volunteer Fire Brigade teaches discipline, responsibility and teamwork, which is very useful in my professional life.
