Interview with the Assistant Constructor!
Zuzanna Frąckowicz: Zuzanna is a civil engineer and is continuing her education with a master's degree in KBI. She is the third generation in her family to work in construction. She did not choose architecture because her analytical mind prevails over her artistic soul. Ambitious in every way, she told us about her plan to obtain her licence before she turns 30. 1. How did your adventure with Rex-Bud Budownictwo begin? At the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering at the Łódź University of Technology, where I study, there is a steel structure design auditorium under the patronage of Rex-Bud Budownictwo. During my studies, I was a member of the ”Momencik„ Student Research Club, where I served as President for over two years. There, I got to know students from different years better and, during conversations behind the scenes, I learned about the largest general contractor, Rex-Bud Budownictwo. When, in 2024, I heard that the company was participating in the ”Młodzi w Łodzi" (Young People in Łódź) programme and funding Space Scholarships for the best students, I decided to apply. Thanks to my high average grade from the previous two semesters, participation in a conference, a grant and other academic achievements, I was awarded a grant and became an ambassador for the company. And in February 2025, I started working as a Design Assistant. 2. What are your responsibilities in this position and what processes are you involved in? First and foremost, I model structures and prepare drawing documentation in a BIM environment using TEKLA Structures software. I also work with architects, construction engineers and clients. I prepare technical, executive and as-built documentation. 3. What did you find most interesting and what was challenging when you started working at Rex-Bud Budownictwo? The most interesting thing was working on large projects using real-time shared models and the opportunity to collaborate with architects. The biggest challenge, on the other hand, was remembering to make revisions – at university, I got used to overwriting files, but here there are specific rules that allow you to organise the changes you have made. 4. What advice would you give to younger students? Start working as soon as possible, even if it's part-time, try your hand at construction and in the office – put what you learn at university into practice. Be open to new experiences, take part in all kinds of initiatives, such as competitions, research clubs, grants and conferences, because, as you can see from my example, it opens many doors. 5. What are your future career plans? Of course, to complete my master's degree. And then to obtain my licence – I assume that I will need at least two years of experience on a construction site and two years in an office. So I should be able to do it by the time I'm 30 🙂 Privately, I have a lot of changes ahead of me – moving to the Tri-City to follow my heart and a lot of preparations to put on a white dress and change my marital status in a year's time. 6. Zuza, can you share with us what connects your passion with our business profile? One of my greatest passions is cooking. At work, just like in the kitchen, I always try to approach everything in a task-oriented manner, but at the same time I never forget about my creativity.
